Tech Tuesday: Lightroom 3

I am a lover of Lightroom and have been since version 1. There have been some things I wanted added and version 3 addresses most of those. Most notably a way to truly watermark photos. With that added I know do 80-90% of my editing in lightroom instead of the 70-80% in version 2.7. You can read about the new features here and here. You can download a free trial here. There is also much to learn on the adobe website.

I am going to post a few screenshots of the features I like.

To access the import dialog click file then import photos. I do mine directly from the card reader.

Then you will get the new import interface. it not only shows you the import options but where the photos are coming from(left side) and the destination(right side) There are many options explained in the above videos

Since I copy and move mine I can send it to the external hardrive and place it under a named folder( such as roadtrip) making it easier to know what is in it instead of the old way of (imported on date)

Once you are done click import. In the develop module you can now set it for individual lens models.

Another new feature is the ability to publish straight to a Flickr account. Hopefully in the future they will add others such as smugmug or Facebook.

All you have to do is select the photos and drag and drop to the publish line.

Then it will show the photos to publish.

Once you have them click publish and it will add them. You also can add an editable watermark I will show later.

The first time you use publish or export there is a checkbox for watermark and a drop down list that lets you select a custom one.

Then you will get this dialog box that allows many options for your custom watermark.

If you have version 2.7 it is worth the upgrade. If you don’t have it I suggest watching all the videos and downloading the free trial
